Labradorite keeps its color inside. Look at it straight on and it reads as a dark grey stone. Turn it a few degrees and a sheet of blue or green appears across the face, then goes again. That effect is why most of these pieces are cut flat and left plain — wherever a setting would sit is somewhere the flash cannot reach.

Where the color shows

  • Blue flash is the most common here, and the one that reads from furthest away.
  • Green and gold appear less often, and tend to be localised on the stone rather than spread across it.
  • Web or veined cuts show the flash broken into lines instead of one sheet.

Seven pieces, and four of them are pendants rather than bracelets. That is not an accident. A pendant hangs flat against the chest and catches light from more angles than a wrist ever will.

Cut and setting

The pendant forms are deliberately simple — cord, macramé, or a leaf shape, with as little metal as possible. One piece is wrapped in gold-filled wire, which holds the stone without covering it.

Labradorite is worn here as a protecting stone, in the same register as the other protection pieces.

Wearing it

Labradorite is softer than quartz and will scratch. Keep it apart from harder stones, and expect the polish to dull slowly with daily wear before it needs attention.

Look at the piece flat, in your own light. A labradorite photographed from the wrong angle looks like a grey stone.
