Feng shui jewelry, in this collection, is shapes rather than stones. A pixiu, a gourd, a coin, a fortune bag — the material changes from piece to piece, but the figure stays the same, and the intent travels with the figure.
The shapes
-
Pixiu — the winged guardian, cut in obsidian, citrine, jade, or garnet. It is the most common figure here.
-
Gourd — the shape that holds, worn single or doubled.
-
Coin and fortune bag — the two small forms, worn as charms rather than as the main strand.
-
Five-element wrap — the one piece here that is about arrangement rather than about a figure.
Why so much of it is in stone
The stones are chosen for what they look like next to the figure rather than for their own sake. Obsidian makes a carved pixiu disappear into itself; citrine makes it warm; jade makes it quiet. That is why the same shape appears in so many materials — the figure is the constant and the stone is the variable.
Choosing
Start with the shape you want. If you have no preference, the pixiu and the gourd are the two ends of this collection — one gathers, one holds.
The pixiu pieces are also set out on their own.
